Biography

I definitely don't just eat to live. I love trying new foods, cooking new recipes and old favourites, and eating out at restaurants or with friends and family. Chopping vegetables, stirring a simmering sauce, stew or chili, mixing a bowl of muffin batter – it’s like a kind of meditation for me. Good for my soul, good for my body (usually). Growing up I enjoyed great home cooking - nothing adventurous, just good wholesome food. Later, when I moved to Los Angeles, and then London, England I realized I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to food. I tried many new kinds of food and grew to love food I'd never experienced before. Even simple things like enjoying really great cheeses with friends and family in England took me beyond that standard block of cheddar I grew up with (as well as adding to the appreciation of great wine with all of that wonderful cheese).

Backpacking around Europe, then South East Asia and Australia opened me up to more tastes and smells. In Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore I have especially enjoyed the great street food - the intense smells, the sizzle and steam of my breakfast, lunch or dinner being made right there in front of me - there's nothing like it.

When I travel one of my favourite things is to figure out what my next meal will be, and I’m like this at home as well. I created this site so I could share my explorations and adventures in cooking, baking and eating healthy and delicious food - whether it is recipes I create from scratch or those that are inspired by the recipes of others. Often I use a recipe as a launching pad for creating one of my own. It’s not always successful, but it’s fun and creative.

Occasionally I will write about my food adventures while travelling, something that has always been a part of my travel news and journals.

I’d love to take a proper cooking course in France, Italy and Thailand some day, but for now my kitchen is my classroom.

Join me in the journey.
